Born on September 30, 1957 in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Graduated from Hyogo Prefectural Kakogawa Higashi High School and the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Letters, University of Tokyo. Joined Tokyo Broadcasting Co., Ltd. in April 1981. Since then, he has worked on the front lines of television reporting, including in the news bureau's social affairs department and political department. Became the anchor for "News no Mori" in April 1993. After that, he held positions such as the foreign news department's Washington bureau chief and social affairs director, and appeared on many TBS-JNN news programs such as "Asa Zuba," "Hiruobi," and "N Star" as the head of the news department's commentary specialist press office. Retired from TBS Television Co., Ltd. on December 31, 2015. During his tenure at TBS, he held approximately 200 lectures a year, and held numerous positions including JF (Zengyōren) planning committee, Japan National Press Club planning committee, and Manifesto Grand Prize judging committee. In addition, he has been involved in NPO activities related to the Great East Japan Earthquake, and as a special visiting professor at Kwansei Gakuin University's Faculty of Policy Studies, he has been involved in training younger students.
