Career
Born on April 2, 1958 in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture. March 1982: Graduated from the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Law, Keio University. In 1982, he entered the Matsushita School of Government and Management as a third-year student. In 1984, he worked as a staff member for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1987, he ran for election to the Kanagawa Prefectural Assembly and was elected as the youngest member in the history of the prefectural government. Elected for second term in 1991. In 1993, he was elected as a member of the House of Representatives. Elected for second term in 1996. Elected for the third term in 2000. In 2003, he became the governor of Kanagawa Prefecture. Appointed for second term in 2007. He achieved about 80% of his manifesto goals during his two eight-year term, including the enactment of an ordinance prohibiting multiple gubernatorial elections and an ordinance preventing passive smoking. Elected as a member of the House of Councilors in 2013. Currently serves as a visiting professor at St. Marianna University School of Medicine, a part-time lecturer at the Kanagawa University Faculty of Law, and a representative director of the Metropolitan Area Policy Research Institute. 〇 Publications: “JT, the Ministry of Finance, and Tobacco Interests,” “Sontoku Ninomiya, which you should know as part of your education,” “Start!
