Career
Born in May 1949 in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Affiliated with the Faculty of Law, Hosei University, and the Graduate School of Political Science, Waseda University. Participated in the New Freedom Club party. Member of the party's policy committee and national youth director. Policy Committee member, Institute for Policy Science. In 1993, he was elected as a member of the House of Representatives and served for three terms. In 2003, he was elected Governor of Saitama Prefecture and served for four terms. During this time, he served as an advisor to the Ministry of Social Responsibility, a visiting professor at Takushoku University Graduate School, and a member of the Uchia Regional Sovereignty Strategy Council. Appointed as Director of the National Governors Association's Great East Japan Earthquake Reconstruction Cooperation Headquarters and Chairman of the National Governors Association.
