Born on June 9, 1960 in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. After attending Kanazawa University High School, he entered the Faculty of Letters, University of Tokyo in 1961. Entered the Faculty of Law at the University of Tokyo and began his career in 1989.
〇In the same year, he joined Hokkoku Shimbun and served as a political reporter and editorial writer. After reporting on the abduction issue in North Korea, he decided to pursue a career in politics.
〇Won the Ishikawa Prefectural Assembly by-election in March 2014
〇Elected as leader of the House of Councilors in July 2016. Worked on foreign affairs and security, and also participated in the drafting of the Liberal Democratic Party's new constitution.
Since 2019, he has worked hard to normalize the distorted Diet system as Director of Parliamentary Affairs and Vice-Chairman of the National Affairs Committee.
