Career

Born in Tokyo on September 19, 1950. Spent time in Fukui prefecture until junior high school. After graduating from Tokyo Metropolitan Komaba High School, he entered the Faculty of Letters at the University of the Sacred Heart in 1971. After working at a publishing company and as editor-in-chief of the Sankei Living Newspaper, he was elected as the head of the House of Councilors in 2000, and in 2004 as the head of the House of Councilors (national proportional district).
